On May 30th, Peace Care St. Joseph’s welcomed very special guests to visit our residents. 

Alexander and Michelangelo, two miniature therapy horses, and middle school students from Joseph H. Berninger School – PS 17 stopped by to greet our residents.  

Equine therapy is an experiential therapy between the interaction of patients and horses. Alexander and Michelangelo, with help from students from PS 17, brightened the day of our residents and staff. Our residents were able to pet and interact with the horses, and pose for pictures together. Some were even able take the reins and as the horses pulled them in their wheelchairs for a few laps in the Recreation Room. 

Some residents recalled and shared precious childhood memories that the horses invoked. A few shared stores of their own horses or their adventures horseback riding. For others, this experience was their first time being up close with a horse and was an exciting moment.
