Hudson County’s first baby of 2017 is happy and healthy Jay’Marie Rios who weighs in at nearly eight pounds and was born at 9:51 a.m. at Jersey City Medical Center-RWJBarnabas Health.
“She is famous now.” said Joanna Reyes, 22, as she cuddled her 20-inch daughter in the hospital room with the baby’s father, Samuel Rios, 24, and other relatives this afternoon.
The couple has a 1-year-old daughter named Jaylee and Rios said “I’m happy. Now they can both fight with each other.”
Asked what she wants her daughter to be when she grows up, the mother said, “Just whatever she wants to be. I think she will be good.” The father said, “I hope she grows up to be a very nice young lady.”
When asked how she was feeling, Reyes joked saying, “I’m really tired. I’m dying.”
The newborn’s grandmother, Antoinette Reyes, also of Jersey City, said, “I’m excited and tired at the same time. I know I will take of her when (Reyes) goes back to work. I already take care of this one,” she said, referring to Jay’Marie’s big sister.
